On December 5, the Chinese manufacturer GAC Motors announced a technical cooperation agreement with the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) and the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), for research and development of flex and hybrid flex engines for its cars.
The partnership involves an investment of R$ 120 million for the Brazilian universities, with a focus on electrical and mechanical engineering. The Researchers from Unicamp, UFSM, UFSC will work on the development of vehicles, engines, auto parts and components for the production of flex and hybrid flex engines in Brazil. These will be manufactured by GAC from 2026, and will also serve the market in other Latin American countries.
In addition, the Brazilian universities will coordinate teaching, research and extension projects with technical and financial incentives from GAC Motors. The partnerships include the promotion of internships for students and professionals between China and Brazil, as well as joint training programs
