The National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) and the Chinese Institute of Intellectual Property (CNIPA) held a meeting on August 16 at the INPI headquarters in Rio de Janeiro to discuss cooperation in this area.
Among the topics under debate were: the functioning of the trademark system in Brazil and the observance of such rights; the modalities for priority patent examination, including the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) agreement between the two institutes; and the use of Information Technology tools, covering topics such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Other topics discussed at the meeting were using Geographical Indications and carrying out activities to disseminate IP.
The two institutes also shared details about their projects, activities, and organizational structure during the meeting. About the demand for services, the CNIPA received, in 2023, more than 3 million patent applications.
