A few months ago it was a brand unknown to the overwhelming majority of Portuguese, but since the beginning of this year, the Chinese company BYD has sold more electric cars than Volkswagen on the Portuguese market.

According to the latest statistics released on March 4 by the Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP), in January and February 2024 the Chinese electric car brand BYD sold 251 units, compared to 236 for the German giant Volkswagen.

In February alone, BYD sold 123 cars in Portugal, while VW sold no more than 81 units, according to ACAP.

BYD already has sales points practically all over Portugal, and the cheapest model (of the five it already has available on the national market) starts at 29,990 euros, one of the most affordable in the electric car segment.
