The Macao Association of Banks will hold this month a seminar to spur co-operation by commercial banks in Macao and the Portuguese-speaking world, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Wendy Sun Min, an executive of the Macau branch of Bank of China, as saying the association has invited to Macao representatives of all the banking associations in lusophone Africa, and of commercial and investment departments of banks in the Portuguese-speaking world.

“Everyone will be able to share information and ideas on how to build long-term relationships,” Ms Sun said.

The report says Governor Carlos Costa of the Portuguese central bank and Governor Américo Barros of the São Tomé and Príncipe central bank mean to attend.

That Macao can serve as a conduit for Chinese investment in the Portuguese-speaking world is advantageous, Lusa quotes Ms Sun as saying.
