The latest Brazilian Film Festival to be put on in China has opened in Beijing, China Radio International (CRI) reports.

The Chinese state-run radio station says on its website that eight films are on the festival programme, which began in Beijing on Friday and ends there on Thursday.

The report says the programme will then be shown in five other Chinese cities: Macao, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Shanghai.

The Brazilian Embassy in Beijing and the China Film Archive jointly arranged the festival, the third in the series, the report says.

The festival will enhance international understanding, CRI quotes Brazilian film producer and festival curator Marcos Jorge as saying.

Separately, the Chinese government-run news agency, Xinhua, reports that an award will be given for the film that draws the highest score from the audience in all six cities.

The programme of the first two editions of the festival was shown in only three cities, Xinhua says.
