Chinese tour operators estimate that about 100,000 Chinese would visit Cape Verde if the country enhanced its facilities for tourists, such as hotels, and improved its roads, the Tourism Review website reports.
The website says the Cape Verdean government is taking measures meant to attract more visitors to the archipelago, particularly Chinese.
The report says one of the main assets of Cape Verde is its situation off the northeast coast of Africa, near the Canary Islands, which belong to Spain, and near Madeira and the Azores, which belong to Portugal.
Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi said during a recent visit to Cape Verde that the Chinese government would support unconditionally the development of maritime economic activity there, having agreed to play a part in an economic zone to be established on the island of São Vicente.
