A delegation of officials from the Pan-Pearl River Delta region will visit Portugal in June, according to Jornal Tribuna de Macau.

The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) is organising the visit, the newspaper said.

“We are planning and co-ordinating a visit to Portugal of a delegation of [representatives of] governmental sectors from the Pan-Pearl River Delta,” IPIM’s Executive Director Glória Batalha Ung told the newspaper.

Ms Ung was referring to what is also called the “9+2 Block,” encompassing nine provinces and regions from Mainland China: Guangdong; Fujian; Jiangxi; Hunan; Guangxi; Hainan; Sichuan, Guizhou; Yunnan;  and the Special Administrative Regions of Macao and Hong Kong.

The visit is aimed at exploring investment opportunities in trade, as well as learning from Portugal’s experience in the field of environmental protection, Ms Ung explained.

“This visit shows that the Macao services platform is not only for entrepreneurs, but also for governments,” she noted.
