A fish canning and fish distribution network backed by Chinese business would start operating soon in Guinea-Bissau, said the African country’s Secretary of State for Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Ildefonso Barros.
The project is part of an agreement signed between the Government and China International Fisheries Corporation
(CONAPEMAC), Mr Barros said, as quoted by Angolan newspaper Jornal de Angola.
The Secretary of State added the new fishing industry facilities would be in the Guinean capital, Bissau, next to CONAPEMAC’s existing ones.
Mr Barros was speaking to a delegation of business people from China’s Jiangsu province. It started a visit to Guinea-Bissau last week.
The head of the delegation, Zhang Song Ping, said – as quoted by the media outlet – that Jiangsu province was “a great market” for Guinean cashew nut exporters, noting the Chinese province had a population of over 88 million people.
