Mozambique’s gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 5.9 percent in the second quarter of this year spurred by the primary sector, said the Bank of Mozambique on Tuesday.
Online media Macauhub quoted Waldemar de Sousa, Director of Mozambique’s central bank, saying that the primary sector – which includes agriculture, fishing and mining – recorded a rise of 47 percent in the second quarter compared with the prior-year period.
Nonetheless, the economy of the African nation slowed down from a 7.8-percent growth in the second quarter of 2014. Mr Sousa pointed out that there were “declining international demand for raw materials and logistical difficulties for selling products such as coal”.
The central bank also announced this week that inflation in the nation rose 0.12 percent in September.
