CITIC Construction, a subsidiary of China’s CITIC Group, has signed an agreement with the municipal administration of Belas in Luanda, Angola’s capital, to cede its vocational training school as a temporary shelter for families affected by the heavy rains that hit the region last week.

Under the agreement, in addition to providing free shelter, CITIC’s BN-Angola Vocational Training Centre will also provide essential supplies such as bedding, mattresses, clean water and food.

Simon Junto, the coordinator of the Benfica Salinas sector, which was also affected, said Luanda was hit by heavy rains for several consecutive days last week, which caused serious damage to many communities, with houses washed away by flooding.

He said that the relocated residents of his community were grateful to the Chinese company for providing a safe place for them, praising the social responsibility practices of Chinese companies in Angola.
