The government in China has told the legislature that its target for the annual rate of growth in gross domestic product this year is between 6 percent and 6.5 percent, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency, citing a document submitted to the National People’s Congress, says the target for the annual rate of annual consumer price inflation this year is about 3 percent, and the target for the urban unemployment rate is 4.5 percent or less.

The report quotes Premier Li Keqiang as telling the legislature that the targets reflect the aspiration for the economy to develop well while taking into account realities, so China can become moderately prosperous in all respects by 2020.

The government will make access to certain markets easier, allow foreign investment in more fields, and allow foreigners without Chinese partners to operate in more industries, Xinhua quotes Mr Li as saying.
