A taskforce formed by representatives of Macao’s six tertiary education institutions has met to discuss efforts to cultivate human resources that are bilingual in Chinese and Portuguese.

A statement from Macao’s Tertiary Education Services Office says it and the institutions have created an action plan that includes the establishment of a laboratory for Portuguese, teacher training and the development of Portuguese-language teaching aids.

A meeting last week provided a platform for exchanges and cooperation, which could create more opportunities from existing resources, the office said.

Some 200 students graduated from Macao’s Portuguese-specialty programmes last year and there are 755 students enrolled at the city’s universities in similar programmes in the 2016/17 academic year.
