More than 138,000 tourists were welcomed to Cape Verde in the third quarter, an increase of 6.6 percent compared to the same time last year, says the country’s National Statistics Institute.

The figures, published this week in the A Semana newspaper, are the sum of guests that stayed in a hotel between July and September. The number of overnight stays was 5.2 percent higher this year compared to the same time in 2015.

About one-fifth of visitors were arrivals from Britain, Cape Verde’s primary source of tourists.
