The Angolan Government has hired four Chinese companies to deliver water supply-related public projects in Luanda Province; worth in total US$214.5 million, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported last week.
The media outlet cited presidential orders dated from late June mentioning the projects awarded to the following companies: China Machinery Engineering Corp (CMEC); Qingjiang Group; Guangxi Hydroelectric Construction Bureau (GHCB); and China National Electronics Import & Export Corp (CEIEC).
The largest contract has been awarded to CMEC, according to the report. The scheme, worth US$122.2 million, is for the construction of a third phase of a water treatment station in Candelabro in Luanda Province.
The projects are in part the result of wider financing agreements between Angola and China, the Portuguese news agency said. The Angolan Government plans to invest approximately US$29 billion in the energy and water sector up to the year 2025, according to Lusa.
