Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) signed last week a co-operation agreement with institutions in Mainland China to build a laboratory to develop technology to help handle translation between Chinese, Portuguese and English, local newspaper Macao Daily News reported.
The laboratory – to be built in collaboration with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Global Tone Communication Technology Co Ltd – will be located at MPI.
The newspaper reported the laboratory could help the city to become an exchange platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, and help to raise Macao’s international profile for technology development.
Co-operation on the laboratory would focus on technology platforms, the application of hi-tech techniques, and cultivation of professional talent, in bid to enhance the quality and speed of Chinese-Portuguese-English translation services, the report added.
