A business delegation from China’s Shandong province last week started a visit to Mozambique to explore partnership opportunities, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported.
The 70-member mission took part on Friday in the Mozambique-China Business Forum, held in the Mozambican capital, Maputo.
The Vice Governor of Shandong Province, Sun Wei, said at the event – as quoted by the media outlet – that the visit was aimed at implementing elements of the policy consensus recently reached between the President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, and the President of China, Xi Jinping.
The value of investment in the African nation by companies from Shandong totalled US$140 million last year, bringing the accumulated investment from Shandong firms in Mozambique to more than US$200 million, the Governor of Shandong Province, Guo Shuqing, said earlier this month. Mr Guo met with Mr Nyusi during the latter’s visit to China.
Mr Nyusi paid his first official visit to China this month. During that visit, the two countries agreed to strengthen industrial co-operation, as well as to elevate their ties to the status of a comprehensive strategic partnership, Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua had earlier reported.
