China is willing to strengthen co-operation with Mozambique in a number of fields, from industrial co-operation to climate change, Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

China’s Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi made the remarks after meeting with Mozambique’s President, Filipe Nyusi, and the country’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Oldemiro Baloi, in Maputo, capital of the African nation, on Tuesday. Mr Wang has been on an official tour to four African nations since last week.

“China can transfer advanced industrial technology to Mozambique,” said Mr Wang. “[It] can also help speed up industrial development in Mozambique through two key areas, natural gas and manufacturing, providing infrastructure, human resources and financing,” he added.

Mr Wang stated that China would enhance agricultural co-operation with the African nation, to help ensure food safety and improve Mozambique’s agricultural production. The world’s second largest economy would also work closely with Mozambique on fighting poverty, as well as on education, healthcare and climate change, he added.

Mr Nyusi was quoted as saying the help provided by China would “bring new hope to the future development of Africa”.

Mr Wang and Mr Baloi on Tuesday signed a visa exemption agreement for diplomatic or service passport holders of both nations.
