The seventeenth medical mission of the People’s Republic of China to São Tomé and Príncipe, made up of doctors and experts from the West China Hospital, shared minimally invasive surgery techniques with local doctors, giving classes in laparoscopic and suturing techniques.

The training officially started earlier this year. Local doctors completed the first lecture and two simulated hands-on operations on the 10th and 11th of January, explained Yang Yi, head of China’s 17th medical mission in São Tomé and Príncipe.

In addition to training the clinical staff involved in the operating room in São Tomé, since 2019, Chinese cooperation has equipped the Hospital Central Ayres de Menezes with equipment to perform the laparoscopic technique, that is, minimally invasive surgeries. According to the Chinese medical mission, the equipment offered by the West China Hospital has arrived in São Tomé.
