Guinea-Bissau’s President José Mario Vaz on Monday swore in the new Government led by former Minister of Presidential Affairs Baciro Djá. The President did so after receiving support for the move from the Party for Social Renewal (PRS), the West African country’s second largest political party.

Mr Djá’s new cabinet is composed of 16 ministers and 15 secretaries of state, according to the presidential decree naming them. The PRS secured five ministries and five secretary of state posts, along with governorships and ambassadorships as part of the agreement.

Among the key portfolios, only finance was not immediately allocated, while foreign affairs returned to Rui Dia de Souza, of the majority African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC). The PAIGC did not endorse the President’s new appointee as head of Government.

President Vaz dissolved last month the administration headed by former Prime Minister Domingos Simões Pereira. It was reported the move was due to political differences.
