The Mayor of Ponta Delgada, Pedro Nascimento Cabral, was present at the founding ceremony of the first Association of the Chinese Community in the Azores, “a historic moment for Ponta Delgada, for the Azores and for Portugal, which will allow the internationalization of the economy, culture and knowledge”.

Pedro Nascimento Cabral added that “we have a strong Chinese community in Ponta Delgada and in the Azores, a community that proves to be well incorporated and that is essential to strengthen relations with this great country, which is China”.

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Portugal, Zhao Bentang, congratulated the creation of this Association and praised “the facilities and support that the Municipality of Ponta Delgada and Ribeira Grande have provided to the Chinese community in the region”.

“This Association of the Chinese Community in the Azores will allow for a greater strengthening of institutional relations and on the part of the municipalities and the Regional Government, I believe that they will continue to give full support to the work and life of this Chinese community” said the ambassador.
