The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) signed on the 12th of April, in Beijing, a cooperation agreement in science and technology with the Chinese institution CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Emerging Infectious Diseases (CEEID). Among the measures, the creation of the China-Brazil Center for Research and Prevention of Infectious Diseases (IDRPC) stands out. One headquarters will be in Beijing and the other in Rio de Janeiro.

The partnership is aimed especially at the prevention and control of pandemics, epidemics and infectious diseases. These include Covid-19, influenza, chikungunya, zika, dengue, yellow fever and tuberculosis. There is also a commitment to developing global health public goods, such as rapid diagnostic tests, therapies, vaccines and drugs.

“We are also considering making joint edicts related to specific projects and increasing the interflow of researchers between China and Brazil. And one of the highlights is to hold a seminar by the last quarter of this year or the first quarter of next year so that we can identify connection points and potential contracts,” said Mario Moreira, president of Fiocruz.
