Delegation of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao attend ‘2018 Roundtable for Economic and Trade Cooperation between Sichuan, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries’

A delegation from the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) attended on November 9 the “2018 Roundtable for Economic and Trade Cooperation between Sichuan, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries”. The delegation was led by Forum Macao Deputy Secretaries-General Mr Rodrigo Brum and Mr Casimiro de Jesus Pinto.


A memorandum – summarising future cooperation and collaboration principles – was signed by the Sichuan Department of Commerce and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM). The ceremony was witnessed by the Forum Macao delegation.


The theme of the roundtable was “New Mechanisms, New Platforms, New Opportunities”, and it was a component of “Hong Kong-Macao-Sichuan Cooperation Week”. The overall aims of the initiatives are: to make use of Macao’s unique advantages as a platform for cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries; to strengthen existing cooperation between Sichuan, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries; and explore opportunities for economic and investment cooperation and exchanges in new areas, thus advancing and strengthening China’s opening-up policy regarding the country’s economy.


During the conference, Forum Macao’s Mr de Jesus Pinto gave a speech noting Sichuan had made a great effort to develop cooperation with Portuguese-speaking Countries. The promotion of such cooperation was an important aim outlined in the Strategic Plan that had been signed in a ministerial conference. It had also been identified in recent years as one of the key goals for the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao.


Mr de Jesus Pinto welcomed the fact Sichuan Province was making use of the advantages of Macao as a platform, in order for Sichuan to strengthen its cooperation with Portuguese-speaking Countries. He looked forward to seeing the participation of more mainland provinces in such efforts. The future of cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries was bright, and such aspirations could be realised thanks to stronger connections.
