A delegation from the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Forum Macao) joined on April 21 and 22 a series of promotional activities organised by the Macao SAR Government in the city of Jiangmen, Guangdong Province. Among these events was the ‘Dynamic Macao Business and Trade Fair – Jiangmen, Guangdong’.

The aim of the activities was to highlight the role of Macao as a service platform and to explain the investment environment and business opportunities in Portuguese-speaking Countries.

Among the Macao delegation travelling to Jiangmen were participants in the ‘Workshop on Training for SMEs from Portuguese-speaking Countries’, organised by the Training Centre of Forum Macao.

One of the events attended by the delegation during the visit was the ‘Seminar on Business Co-operation between Jiangmen, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries’. It was held on April 21.

A number of companies from Jiangmen representing respectively the tourism, hospitality, banking, agriculture, home appliance production, manufacturing, chemicals and environmental protection sectors took part in the Seminar. During the Seminar, representatives of the companies had the opportunity to interact with the Representatives of Portuguese-speaking Countries at the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao.

The delegation from the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao also attended the opening ceremony of the ‘Dynamic Macao Business and Trade Fair – Jiangmen, Guangdong’ on April 22. The Fair took place at the Wuyi Huaqiao Plaza Convention Center in the city.

Guests at the Fair’s opening ceremony included: the Macao SAR’s Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Leong Vai Tac; the Mayor of Jiangmen Municipality, Mr Deng Weigen; the Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Mr Kou Ming; the Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Chang Hexi; the Deputy Secretary-General (appointed by Portuguese-speaking Countries) of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Vicente de Jesus Manuel; the Deputy Secretary-General (appointed by the Macao SAR Government) of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Ms Cristina Morais; the President of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Mr Jackson Chang; and the Director of Macao Economic Services, Mr Tai Kin Ip.

Following the opening ceremony, the guests visited the Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Pavilion at the ‘Dynamic Macao Business and Trade Fair – Jiangmen, Guangdong’. The pavilion was organised by the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao.

As part of the visit to Jiangmen, the delegation from the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao additionally attended a Macao-Jiangmen exchange session on tourism. The group also toured Jiangmen’s Riverside Park area and visited the facilities of two firms: motorcycle manufacturer Grand River Group, which produces vehicles under the ‘Haojue’ brand; and Hisense (Guangdong) Air Conditioning Co., Ltd.

The activities in Jiangmen contributed to promoting more fully Forum Macao and Macao’s role as a service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. They also enabled the delegation to introduce to interested parties the business and investment environment in the Portuguese-speaking Countries, as well as the policies of those countries. This helped to promote pragmatic co-operation between companies from Mainland China – namely from Jiangmen and Guangdong Province – and Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

Other members of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao that joined the delegation travelling to Jiangmen included: the Coordinator of the Executive Office of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Ms Zhang Jie; and the Coordinator of the Liaison Office of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao and Representative of Guinea-Bissau at the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Malam Becker Camará.

Also in the delegation for the events in Jiangmen were several Representatives of Portuguese-speaking Countries at the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, namely: Mr Belarmino Barbosa of Angola, Mr Mário Vicente of Cape Verde; Ms Francisca Reino of Mozambique; Ms Maria João Bonifácio, representing Portugal during the visit; and Mr Danilo Henriques of East Timor.
