Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao takes part in 126th Canton Fair, to foster exchanges between Portuguese-speaking Countries and businesses from the Greater Bay Area, and promote Macao’s platform role

A delegation from the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao visited Guangzhou in Mainland China on October 14 and 15 to take part in the 126th China Import and Export Fair, also known as Canton Fair. The participation in the event was in order to promote Macao’s role in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) under the terms of Macao’s strategic positioning known as “One Centre, One Platform and One Base”. Other goals of the visit included: to promote the work of Forum Macao and Macao’s role as a cooperation platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries; and to foster economic and trade cooperation exchanges between the Greater Bay Area and the Portuguese-speaking Countries.


The 126th Canton Fair focused on the countries and regions covered by the national “Belt and Road” initiative.


The Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao and the China Foreign Trade Centre – the latter being the organiser of Canton Fair – maintain a close partnership. The Canton Fair is considered an important platform in promoting economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, facilitating the entry of companies from the Portuguese-speaking Countries to the Greater Bay Area and to the wider Mainland China market. Forum Macao’s participation in Canton Fair also promotes investment and partnerships by businesses from Mainland China, in Portuguese-speaking Countries.


The Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao each year organises delegations to take part in Canton Fair, and has a stand at each edition. The stand helps to promote Forum Macao, and the respective business and investment environments of each of the Portuguese-speaking Countries. At the same time, the Forum Macao stand helps to promote Macao’s role as a platform for economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.


The Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao – via participation in Canton Fair – aims to foster the joint development of companies from Mainland China, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries. Forum Macao’s involvement also aims to align Macao’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, with the work being done for advancement of the Greater Bay Area.
