The closing ceremony and certificate presentation for the “Seminar on Traditional Medicine Cooperation for Participants from Portuguese-speaking Countries” was held on September 26. The seminar was hosted by the Training Centre of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), in partnership with Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd.
The seminar took place between September 13 and 26. It was the third seminar held in 2018 by the Training Centre of Forum Macao. A total of 23 government officials and technicians from Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor took part in the scheme. The seminar had sessions in Macao, Hengqin Island and Guangzhou.
During their stay in Macao, participants attended a series of lectures, site tours and exchange sessions on Macao’s role as a cooperation platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, and on the development of traditional Chinese medicine in Macao. In addition, participants attended the “2018 Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum”.
During the seminar’s sessions held respectively in Hengqin and Guangzhou, participants attended lectures related to internationalisation, quality control and applications of traditional Chinese medicine, all within the context of the “Belt and Road” initiative. Participants were also able to experience traditional Chinese medicine therapies and interact with representatives from official departments and enterprises in this field.
Guests taking part in the closing ceremony for the “Seminar on Traditional Medicine Cooperation for Participants from Portuguese-speaking Countries” included: the Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Ms Xu Yingzhen; the Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Mr Zhang Jianhua; the Consul-General of Angola in the Macao SAR, Ms Sofia Pegado da Silva; the Consul-General of Mozambique in the Macao SAR, Mr Rafael Custodio Marques; the Deputy Chief Executive of Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd, Mr Xie Yi; the Deputy Secretary-General (appointed by the People’s Republic of China) of Forum Macao, Mr Ding Tian; the Deputy Secretary-General (appointed by the Portuguese-speaking Countries) of Forum Macao, Mr Rodrigo Brum; the Deputy Secretary-General (appointed by the Macao SAR) of Forum Macao, Ms Glória Batalha Ung; and the Representatives of the Portuguese-speaking Countries in Forum Macao.
Ms Xu, Mr Xie and Ms Domingas Batista de Sousa – the latter acting, on a rotational basis, as representative of the seminar participants – delivered speeches at the closing ceremony.
Ms Xu stated in her speech that she hoped cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine could play an important role in cultural exchanges between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, within the spirit of the “Belt and Road” initiative. She urged China and Portuguese-speaking Countries to make further use of Macao’s role as a cooperation platform, deepening exchanges in various fields – including medical technology; scientific research; and human resource training – while furthering cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine.
Participants agreed that the seminar had helped improve their understanding of traditional medicine in Mainland China and Macao, and their knowledge of Macao’s role as a Commercial and Trade Cooperation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. In addition, it had helped to strengthen exchanges between Guangdong, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, opening opportunities for fresh collaboration.
