The Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) has again installed a Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Pavilion at the “Macao International Trade and Investment Fair” (MIF), which marked its 22nd edition this year. The Permanent Secretariat also set up a booth at the first independent edition of the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)” (PLPEX), held concurrent to MIF.

The Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao attended the opening ceremony of MIF on October 19, and visited the Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Pavilion and Forum Macao’s own booth at PLPEX.

The Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Pavilion, covering 180 square metres, comprises a total of eight booths representing the Portuguese-speaking Countries of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor. The Pavilion helped to promote the Portuguese-speaking Countries’ business and investment environments. Displays at the Pavilion included traditional products from Portuguese-speaking Countries, with accompanying written explanations, photographs and videos. At the same time, the Pavilion helped to promote the work done by Forum Macao and Macao’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

The Macao SAR Government has provided 10 bilingual staff to help with interpretation and translation at the Pavilion, in order to facilitate direct exchanges between visitors and Delegates of Portuguese-speaking Countries that are members of Forum Macao

As for the first time the two trade fairs coincided with the “9th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, artisans taking part in this year’s Cultural Week also had their artefacts displayed at, respectively, the 22nd MIF and PLPEX.

The Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Pavilion has attracted nearly 5,000 visitors each year that it has been featured at MIF. At the Pavilion, the public and buyers have been able to get to know more information about the cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, as well as about the investment opportunities in those countries.

The fact that this year the Cultural Week was held at the same time as MIF and PLPEX presented an opportunity to display aspects of the cultural life of Portuguese-speaking Countries to the general public visiting both trade shows. This is expected to boost further the exchanges and cooperation in trade, cultural and creative businesses experienced between Mainland China, Macao and the Portuguese-speaking Countries.

The activities of the Cultural Week have attracted positive reviews from governmental officials and trade visitors that have attended MIF and PLPEX. This has also helped Macao strengthen its role as a platform for cooperation between Mainland China, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
