China and São Tomé and Príncipe Sign New Bilateral Cooperation Agreement

On 6 September, the Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe, Patrice Trovoada, and his Chinese counterpart, Li Qiang, attended the signing of a new bilateral cooperation agreement between the two countries.


São Tomé and Príncipe and China have decided to expand bilateral cooperation in the areas of economic development, green development (implementation of technologies that promote and protect the environment, renewable energy, etc.), support for the development of the media, social communication, and finally, the export of cocoa to China.


China will waive customs duties on African agricultural products, benefiting 33 countries, including São Tomé and Príncipe.


The two countries have committed to intensifying cooperation in the agriculture and livestock sectors. In the coming years, São Tomé and Príncipe and China promise to promote infrastructure construction projects. According to the Chinese news agency, the health sector will see a deepening of cooperation.


Furthermore, tourism is also on the agenda of bilateral cooperation with China.
