The eighteenth Chinese medical mission, which has been in the country for almost two years, has supported the São Tomé health system in five specialties, namely general surgery, cardiovascular medicine, gynecology, obstetrics, stomatology, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

"Our goal is to provide medical services to the people of São Tomé and Príncipe, strengthening the friendship between the two peoples and promoting friendly cooperation between China and São Tomé and Príncipe, it is this pure purpose that has made our medical assistance consistent, for decades and its a positive contribution to the friendly development of the two countries," said the head of the 18th Chinese medical mission, Dr. Zhang Ming.

Zhang Ming assured that a Chinese anesthesiologist will be added to the next Chinese medical team, as the lack of a specialist in this field has seriously affected medical work in obstetrics and gynecology surgery.

"The arrival of an anesthetist will not only provide technical support for surgery in São Tomé and Príncipe, but will also help the country train local anesthetists", assured Dr. Ming.
