Cape Verde saw its exports, imports and re-exports increase in 2014, according to preliminary data from the country’s National Institute of Statistics.
The country’s exports were up by 16.6 percent from a year earlier to 6.7 billion Cape Verdean escudos (US$69.1 million), show data quoted by Portuguese news agency Lusa.
Imports went up by 6.5 percent to 64.1 billion escudos in 2014, leaving the country with a trade deficit of 57.4 billion escudos last year, up by 5.5 percent from 2013.
The statistics bureau said that except for Asia, Cape Verdean exports registered positive growth for all other continents.
Among the products most exported by Cape Verde in 2014 were fish, crustaceans and molluscs, accounting for 44.5 percent of all exports, followed by preparations of fish or crustaceans, with a 40-percent share.
