The health police station in Água Grande, which is now open 24 hours a day, has opened the country's first gynaecology and infertility unit.

This was an initiative of the Chinese medical team in São Tomé and Príncipe to respond to the many requests from São Toméan women who are having trouble getting pregnant.

"We detect many cases during our consultations. First we'll carry out tests to check the causes of these infertilities. There are causes that we can resolve right here at the Health Centre. But for the other more difficult cases, the patients will have to be sent for treatment in Portugal," said Luo, a Chinese gynaecologist.

Bonanza Aragão, health delegate for the Água Grande district, believes that the clinic opened by the Chinese medical team represents hope and a future for women suffering from infertility. Hao Qin Mei, economic and commercial counsellor at the Chinese embassy, says it is another fruit of bilateral cooperation.
