IKI Mobile will open on Tuesday the first factory in Portugal for making mobile phones, which will use Chinese technology, Ribatejo reports.

The newspaper quotes IKI Mobile Director Tito Cardoso as saying the factory, in the municipality of Coruche, will employ 40 workers at first, most of whom will be trained by Chinese technicians.

Mr Cardoso said the phones made in the factory will be designed in Portugal and assembled on a cork base made in Portugal, but that most of the software and hardware will come from China.

IKI Mobile also intends to open a factory in Angola to make phones for the southern African market and later the Latin American market, O Ribatejo says.
