An International Monetary Fund official in Mozambique, Ari Aisen, says the economy there is recovering, but that the recovery is fragile, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Mr Aisen as saying so during the presentation in Maputo of the latest IMF report on the economic prospects for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Mr Aisen said it was “worrisome” that the Mozambican recovery was mainly in industries such as mining and fishing.

He described a steep fall in inflation as “positive” and forecast that the annual rate will fall below 10 percent this year, having been 25 percent last year.

The IMF forecasts provisionally that the Mozambican economy will grow by 4.7 percent this year and 5.3 percent next year, Lusa says.
