The number of tourists staying in Cape Verde’s hotels and hostels increased by 13.2 percent last year, the country’s National Statistics Institute announced this week.

Data from the hotel industry compiled by the bureau showed the African nation welcomed more than 644,000 guests last year.

Britain was the main source of tourists. Cape Verde’s Sal island was again the most popular tourist destination. It received 45.6 percent of the country’s hotel guests.
