China has donated 10,000 tonnes of rice worth US$10 million to Mozambique, the state-run news agency Xinhua reports.
“The Chinese government has been following closely the evolution of the droughts and floods, including its impact, in Mozambique,” the Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique, Su Jian, said on Wednesday.
The donation will assist the 700,000 people suffering from the natural disasters.
Residents of Gaza and Inhambane provinces are among those expected to benefit from the donation, the report says. Food supplies in both regions have been affected by two years of droughts and floods.
The Chinese government has also committed to fund the drilling of 200 boreholes for water in stricken areas, the report says.
