East Timor has started itemising the country’s human resources in a survey for use in creating government policy, the Portuguese news agency Lusa reports.

“Human resources are a central element to our development,” East Timor’s Prime Minister Rui Maria de Araújo was quoted as saying last week. “If we strengthen the capacity of our human resources, we strengthen the capacity of transforming money along the development process.”

The government will collect data on bachelor’s degree holders and professionals seeking work, the impact of foreign workers on the labour market, and identify jobs considered strategic and their training needs.

The survey is scheduled to end in February 2017.
