China and Mozambique signed an agreement on Monday to provide partial debt relief to the African country, strengthening bilateral relations, Radio Mozambique reported that day.

Zhang Xiangchen, Vice Minister of Commerce of China, and Maria Isaltina Lucas, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Mozambique, signed the agreement in Maputo, capital of the African nation, said the report.

Mr Zhang also signed a memorandum of understanding with Luísa Meque, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Mozambique, to deepen co-operation in the agricultural sector, the report added.

Mozambique’s President, Filipe Nyusi, visited China last month and met with Chinese President, Xi Jinping. Both sides agreed to elevate the status of their ties to that of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
