China’s State General Administration for Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine has sent a medical team to Angola. It will provide assistance to local authorities in the fight against yellow fever.

The 10-strong team has already started epidemic research studies and vaccinated more than 120 Chinese nationals working in Angola, Chinese official news agency Xinhua reported on Monday.

Angola and China signed in February a bilateral co-operation agreement regarding the fight against an ongoing outbreak of yellow fever in the African country.

The Chinese medical team will also conduct education and prevention campaigns at Chinese companies with operations in Angola, added Xinhua.

Since the current outbreak of yellow fever started at the end of 2015, at least 189 Angola nationals are reported to have died in the capital city of Luanda alone. The disease has also killed at least eight Chinese workers in the country, stated Xinhua’s report.
