Subsidiaries of Chinese state-owned power company China Three Gorges and Portuguese power firm Energias de Portugal (EDP) signed an agreement last week to jointly invest in a wind power project in the North Sea near Scotland, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported.
EDP Renováveis said in a statement last week: “China Three Gorges EU intends to buy up to 30 percent of the interests directly or indirectly held by EDP Renováveis UK in Moray Offshore Renewable Ltd, to participate in the investment, development and operation of the Moray offshore wind project.”
In 2010 Moray Offshore secured a licence from the United Kingdom to develop the offshore wind power project in North Sea. It acquired approval from Scotland last year to develop the project of up to 1,116MW power capacity.
China Three Gorges is EDP’s biggest shareholder, with a stake of 21.35 percent in the Portuguese firm.
