A twinning agreement was signed on the 16th of February between Maringá and the city of Yongzhou, in China. The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Commercial and Business Association of Maringá (Acim) to seal the partnership, which seeks to exchange economic, cultural and tourist knowledge between the cities.

The president of Yongzhou, Chen Ailin, said that it was an honor to sign the agreement with Maringá and that he will pay a visit soon. He presented a video about the city, highlighting the historical and cultural aspects in addition to industry, agriculture and biomedicine.

The authority began negotiations with Yongzhou in early 2022. After several meetings with the Chinese city, a sister city project was created, which was approved by the City Council in May last year.

Maringá is sister city of Kakogawa (Japan), Leiria (Portugal), San Martin (Argentina) and Caserta (Italy).
