On the 27th of April, Brazil’s vice-president and minister of Economic Development, Industry and Trade, Geraldo Alckmin, visited the plant of Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor (GWM) Brazil, which is located in Iracemápolis, in the interior of São Paulo. The plant, which acquired facilities from Mercedez-Benz in 2021, will produce hybrid and electric vehicles.

In a ceremony held at the plant, alongside GWM’s CEO Americas, James Yang, Alckmin officially announced the debut date of the Brazilian Autotech assembly line: the 1st of May, 2024.

GWM plans to increase the production capacity of the Iracemápolis plant from 20,000 to 100,000 vehicles per year, generating 2,000 direct jobs in the region. This initiative is part of the R$ 10 billion investment plan that the carmaker announced for the Brazilian operation over a 10-year period.
