On the 20th of May, the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, arrived in the province of Cuanza Norte, where he will be informed about the evolution of the construction works of the Caculo-Cabaça Hydroelectric Exploitation Project, in an investment budgeted at USD 4.5 billion.
This is one of the construction phases of the Hydropower Plant and consists in the Kwanza River diversion, an action that will allow the start of the construction of the “wall” of the dam and of the powerhouse, where four turbines of 530 megawatts (MW) each will be placed, for a total of 2,172 MW.
The Caculo-Cabaça Hydropower Plant is expected to start generating commercial energy in October 2026, when the first of the plant’s four turbines is scheduled to start operating.
The Chinese contractor, China Gezhouba Group International Engineering, and its subcontractors are maintaining the various construction fronts, including the construction of the village, where dormitories, offices, canteens, local administration and other services are installed.
