The Malawian government signs a partnership agreement with the Chinese company CRCC da China for the continuity of the project to rebuild the railway line, Vila-Nova-da-Fronteira in Mutarara – Tete à Limbe, in Blantyre.
Initially, the project was valued at 400 million dollars. The project intends to permanently reconnect the railway line from Malawi to the Port of Beira, to guarantee the transport of people and goods.
According to Malawi’s infrastructure minister, Jacob Hara, the works will extend to Lilongwe and later connect to Zambia’s rail network, thus enabling the industrialization of SADC through transport infrastructure.
