The Luachimo Hydroelectric Power Plant, in Dundo, capital of Lunda-Norte, Angola, may start full operation with the four turbines between the end of August or early September this year.
The provincial governor of Lunda-Norte, Deolinda Vilarinho, said that this is a major investment by the Executive that will allow to raise the production capacity from the previous 8.4 to 34 megawatts of energy until its completion.
“We are pleased to know that the last two turbines are already here in the province, and the installation work is also underway. Therefore, we will soon solve the problem of electricity supply in Dundo. The coming months will be of great improvement, since the Luachimo Hydroelectric rehabilitation project is nearing completion,” said the governor, who praised the work carried out by the construction company China Gezhouba Group Company (CGGC), GAMEK and others involved in the works of the largest power generation project in Lunda-Norte.
The Chinese bank, Industrial And Commercial Bank Of China (ICBC) is the financing body for more than 80 percent of the Luachimo Dam hydroelectric rehabilitation project.
