Liberdade Square, a traditional meeting place for Asian cultures in São Paulo, Brazil, will host the free event “Brazil and China: A History of Friendship – China Festival” on 15 and 16 August. The initiative forms part of the celebrations for the Brazil-China Cultural Year and aims to bring Brazilian audiences closer to different expressions of Chinese culture.

The programme will include a performance by the Ibrachina Musical Project, traditional Chinese music and dance performances, dragon and lion dances, kung fu and tai chi demonstrations, Chinese cuisine and traditional Chinese medicine activities.

The festival is organised by the Brazil-China Sociocultural Institute (Ibrachina) and the São Paulo State Secretariat for Culture, Economy and Creative Industries. It aims to promote exchanges and celebrate cultural diversity, helping to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Thomas Law, President of Ibrachina, said that the festival aimed to create a space for Brazilians and Chinese people to meet and share experiences. He added that the programme had been designed to present different expressions of Chinese culture to the public in an accessible way.
