The increase in Brazilian imports of Chinese electrified vehicles helped trade between Brazil and China reach a new record high in the first half of 2026. Imports of battery-electric models nearly quadrupled, while those of plug-in hybrid vehicles doubled. Overall, Brazilian imports of Chinese electrified vehicles totalled US$2.79 billion.
According to a report by the Brazil-China Business Council (CEBC), Brazil recorded a trade surplus of US$19.8 billion in its transactions with China between January and June.
Brazilian imports from China totalled US$38.5 billion. Meanwhile, Brazilian exports rose by 22% to US$58.3 billion, driven primarily by increased sales of crude oil to the Chinese market.
The State of Espírito Santo accounted for 88% of electrified vehicles imported into Brazil. The sector expects import volumes to stabilise in the coming months as local assembly operations begin at BYD and GWM plants in Brazil.
