The Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), with the support of the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Federation of Entrepreneurs, recently held the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Business Opportunities Promotion Seminar – Mozambique”. The initiative aimed to strengthen Macao’s role as a service platform for trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, as well as to prepare the institutions and enterprises that will participate in the “Entrepreneurs Meeting for Commercial and Economic Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries – Maputo – 2026”, to be held from 20 to 25 July in Maputo, Mozambique.

Held in a hybrid format, the seminar brought together around 100 representatives of trade associations and enterprises from mainland China, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries. The participants represented sectors including infrastructure, hydropower construction, banking and finance, product certification, trade between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, and professional services. The event aimed to provide practical information and preparatory support to the participating entities, with a view to promoting concrete opportunities for co-operation.

At the opening of the seminar, an IPIM representative noted that relations between China and Mozambique had officially been elevated in April this year to a “China-Mozambique community with a shared future in the new era”. According to the representative, the new framework clarifies the prospects for co-operation in both traditional and emerging sectors, laying a solid foundation for the further development of bilateral relations. The representative also recalled that China’s 15th Five-Year Plan reaffirmed Macao’s role as a service platform for economic and trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

To better fulfil the role of the China-PSC Platform, IPIM organised a delegation comprising institutions and enterprises from mainland China, Macao and Hengqin, representing a range of sectors. In addition to participating in the conference in Mozambique, the delegation will visit a number of leading local enterprises and hold business matching sessions, with a view to establishing contacts and exploring future opportunities for China-Mozambique co-operation in multiple fields.
