Brazil’s commodity price index recorded a monthly increase of 4.97 percent in February.

The index is compiled on a monthly basis by the country’s central bank.

The commodity price index was however down 0.42 percent for the two first months of 2015 in comparison with the prior-year period.

The February increase was mainly triggered by an 18.35-percent month-on-month jump in the sub-index for energy, which includes oil, natural gas and coal. Prices for agricultural commodities and metals were also up from January, according to Brazil’s central bank.

The commodity price index is based on a basket of international commodities most relevant to Brazilian consumer spending.
