Brazilian and Chinese researchers met at the University of São Paulo (USP) for a workshop on sustainability and climate change promoted by the Center for Sustainable Amazon Studies (CEAS) and the USP-China Center. The meeting, held between March 24 and 26, was supported by the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

According to climatologist Paulo Artaxo, head of the ABC, the aim of the new meeting was to design an action strategy for future collaborative research, laying the foundations for seeking the necessary funding from both countries.

For the Academician, the meeting is an example of closer scientific ties with China and could be repeated for other major areas of research. "Today China is the greatest scientific power on the planet and it needs to find solutions to many problems that we also have. We can't ignore them."
