China is an "important partner" in Portugal's industrial capacity building in the new energy sector, AICEP president Ricardo Arroja said on March 26, highlighting China's technological advances.

China accounts for three quarters of global investment in the production of all clean technologies (photovoltaic, wind, green hydrogen or heat pumps), according to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA).

"It's very important that we have greater industrial traction from China, because there are many of these sectors where innovation is increasingly coming from here," said Arroja.

He also revealed that Portugal wants to attract Chinese investment to build offshore wind farms, after visiting the headquarters of Goldwind, the world's leading wind turbine manufacturer, in Beijing. "Obviously, China has important companies that may be interested in approaching the investment opportunities that are going to form in Portugal in this area," he said.
