In a recent survey carried out by the British institute Rho Motion, Brazil emerged as the country with the largest presence of Chinese electric cars and plug-in hybrids. In February, it was found that 82% of these vehicles sold in the country are manufactured by Chinese brands.
This impressive figure reflects the receptiveness of Brazilian consumers, as well as the quality and investment of Chinese automakers in the local market. Rho Motion's analysis considered sales in 2024, highlighting the growing acceptance of electrified vehicles in the country.
According to the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE), 125,624 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles were sold in 2024 in Brazil. BYD leads sales with 61.2%, followed by GWM and Volvo. The BYD Dolphin Mini stands out as the best-selling model, with 19,799 units sold in 2024.
The impact of imports is also significant, with Chinese vehicles accounting for more than 25% of total car imports in 2024. This reinforces the strong Chinese presence in the Brazilian market and the continued expansion of this segment in the country.
